AbeTomo-za Yakushima
The "AbeTomo-za" (Yakushima Folk Song, Gottan, Taiko)
We are a glocal Yakushima folk song unit consisting of "Abe Shinya," who runs the 408 Studio Yakushima, handling event sound and music composition/arrangement, and "Tsukamoto Tomonori," a local barber and festival creative producer active both in and out the island.
They explore roots music by locals for locals, with a keen interest in the ethnography and cultural anthropology of Yakushima and other southern islands. Starting around 2020, they began performing as opening acts at events they produced themselves. Gradually, they gained recognition, receiving invitations to perform at local events such as senior citizen gatherings, summer festivals, house-raising ceremonies, and store opening celebrations. In 2024, they released a CD, and by the end of the same year, their limited-time "Folk Song Bar Binnosu" received positive feedback from inbound visitors.
